Getting Close-Up with Boro

In response to the interest Statler and Waldorf expressed in knowing about our careers, I would like to extend an invitation to everyone who visits our blog to attend the final Phoenix Symphony CloseUps of the season. I started these programs in partnership with Borders Books and Music with the hope of attracting new audiences to our concerts by introducing them to my colleagues, one or two at a time. Borders has graciously sponsored the series for the past ten years.

On the second Monday of every month except December during the concert season, different TPS musicians bring their instruments to Borders at the Biltmore Fashion Park, where they demonstrate, perform, and talk about their personal involvement with music from childhood to the present.
These free programs take place from 7-8 PM, are very casual and always include audience questions and a drawing for free tickets to The Phoenix Symphony.
The final CloseUps features Concertmaster Borivoj (Boro) Martinic-Jercic, who will perform and talk about the musical path that brought him to the U.S. and is now leading him back to his native Croatia, where he will become the Music Director and Concertmaster of the Solisti di Zagreb, a small conductor-less orchestra that tours worldwide to great acclaim.
Because seating is limited, the audience usually starts arriving around 6:15 and there are always people sitting on the floor and leaning on the bookshelves.
I encourage you to drop by, grab a coffee and that new CD or book you’ve been wanting and spend an hour with Boro and a crowd that really loves classical music!

Good Luck Boro, hope to still see you in the pit at Santa Fe Opera, they are lucky to still have you.
Best of luck, BORO. Hope to see you back in Phoenix with your new band Solisti di Zagreb.
So sad I cannot attend the Borders event!!! But good luck and as Sonny said, I'm sure we all hope this is not an ending, but really the start of a new friendship.
Oh, and Sonny -- left a note to you back on the Mrs. Bea page.
I love this idea of the players getting out into the community in an informal setting. I'm sure a lot of people who are just wandering through the book store by chance get caught up in the presentation. And I also know from experience that people out side the business don't realize that musicians have other interests outside of music. This is a wonderful way to get the orchestra more involved in the community.
Sad to see you leave Phoenix, Boro, but we'll see you at SFO soon.
