Borders CloseUps with Resident Conductor Lawrence Golan

Phoenix Symphony CloseUps invites you to preview this week’s orchestra concert, A Musical Love Story with Resident Conductor, Lawrence Golan. A recipient of the prestigious Leonard Bernstein Conducting Fellowship at Tanglewood in 1999, Golan has conducted orchestras across the United States and in 10 countries. Recent international performances include concerts with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra in Moscow, the Harrogate Symphony Orchestra in England, and a tour of Italy with the Orchestra Citta' di Grosseto. In his second season with The Phoenix Symphony, he will talk about his conducting and recording career and will share some insights into his role as the #2 man on the podium.

Meet Lawrence Golan this Monday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Borders Books & Music located at 2402 East Camelback Rd. in Phoenix. The Phoenix Symphony CloseUps will last approximately an hour, including a fun Q&A session at the event. Best of all, the event is FREE - but seating is limited. Don't be late!

Jan Septon, section violinist with The Phoenix Symphony, did a superb job in organizing this event. It was my first time. I couldn't believe the "standing room only" capacity audience, many of whom appeared to be regulars.

I've always noticed Jan on stage. But, Jan, how did you know that I was "Sonny the Cat" when we first ran into each other at the Icehouse recital?

Maestro Golan is what attracted me to this particular CloseUp session. He is such a down-to-earth friendly guy who can answer any question thrown at him with humor and sophistication. In other words, the perfect Resident Conductor. A "gentle" conductor who can make the orchestra carry out his subtle interpretations without any showboating.

My favorite so far was the Tchaikovsky concert. Maestro, you might have talked me into coming stag to the Valentine's concert. I am now looking forward to the major classical concerts that you will lead next season.
