President and CEO Maryellen Gleason on Arts on the Town Radio

As The Phoenix Symphony looks ahead to the 2008-09 Season, one major component will be the Target World Music Festival which kicks off the season right away in September. Phoenix Symphony President and CEO Maryellen Gleason recently talked with Ken and Susan LaFave on their Arts on the Town radio program about the Symphony "going global" and the exciting new paths of music we'll discover along the way.

I went to the concert last night for the Target World Music Festival and liked it even more than I thought I would. The Pipa concerto was stunning, I'm not generally a fan of Takemitsu, but these orchestral works were great and the Bartok was well-played. Even the risk of adding the Gypsy music was a great addition to the concert.

Only one complaint, once again I had to go searching for a copy of 'Keeping Score' -- why aren't these great notes ever available in the programs up in the balcony? Looking forward to the rest of the season.
