Music Is Good Medicine

Jake Shimabukuro will display his lightning-fast fingers on the ukulele in Phoenix on January 15 during his one-night only concert.

In the meantime, Mr. Shimabukuro is doing good through his non-profit organization Music Is Good Medicine (MIGM) and the Takamine guitar company by creating a brand new ukulele to support “Four Strings for Kids,” a program dedicated to making the ukulele available to children all over the world.

Typically only available as expensive, high-end models, or poorly made, Mr. Shimabukuro wanted to develop an affordably-priced ukulele that also has the sound quality of a more expensive version to make the ukulele more readily available to all those who wish to own one.

The new MIGM ukulele will be unveiled this year at the Musical Instruments Fair this November 5 - 8 in Japan.

Mr. Shimabukuro will perform at the Orpheum Theatre on January 15 as part of the Target World Music Festival.
