An Evening with John Adams

Composer John Adams, a Spotlight Composer during the 2009/10 Season, was in attendance at The Phoenix Symphony's "American Masters" concert last evening at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The Symphony performed his powerful Chamber Symphony, which marries a large symphonic work with a smaller chamber format featuring fifteen of the talented Phoenix Symphony musicians.

During intermission, Mr. Adams appeared on stage for Intermission Insights, a casual question and answer session with the Virginia G. Piper Music Director, Michael Christie. Mr. Adams also fielded questions from the eager audience about his motivation, his works, and his future.

Following the concert, which also featured Copland's The City, Barber's Adagio for Srings, and Hanson's Symphony No. 2, Mr. Adams met with Michael Christie, concert sponsors John Zicarelli and Mary Zicarelli of the Zicarelli Family Foundation, Phoenix Symphony Concertmaster Steven Moeckel, and Board Member David Bornemann.
