Don't Miss The Music Man!

Below are some fun facts about The Music Man to get you in the spirit for a sensational Opening Night!
 
  • Mason City, Iowa is where Meredith Willson grew up. While it is re-named River City, Iowa, the set was modeled after Mason City, and many of the characters were inspired by people Willson knew.
  • The Music Man opened on Broadway on December 19, 1957 and ran for 1,375 performances.  
  • The cast recording of “The Music Man” won the first Grammy for “Best Original Cast Album”.
  • There were almost 40 songs in the original Broadway “Music Man”, there were 22 cut.
  • The songs "76 Trombones" and "Goodnight My Someone" are the same tune arranged in different time signatures.
  • Frank Sinatra was Warner Bros' first choice to play Professor Harold Hill in the movie. Meredith Willson told them that if Robert Preston was not in the movie, there would not be any movie.
  • “The Music Man” was the first film to sell for over $1 million to TV.
