An Open Rehearsal with "One Nation"

For the past decade, "One Nation” has created opportunities for musical and cultural interaction between The Phoenix Symphony and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. This program enhances the fundamental music education programs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community's elementary and high schools and builds relationships between Symphony musicians and students. Phoenix Symphony musicians teach music lessons to students, and the program provides Symphony performances at Salt River High School.

Yesterday, "One Nation" students were given the opportunity to sit onstage with The Phoenix Symphony during rehearsal for this weekend's concerts of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Classical Symphony as well as Adams' Shaker Loops.

During the break, The Virginia G. Piper Music Director, Michael Christie, spoke with the students about the music they had just heard, the goals of the students and the power of music. Here are just a few photos from their experience!
