Our Maestro Christie was in San Antonio last month guest conducting their Symphony in the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegin," and Dvorak's Symphony No. 5. The soloist was one of Phoenix's favorites, Midori, playing the Tchaikovsky Concerto.
According to mgreenberg@express-news.net, "Christie was fully attentive to the soloist and kept the orchestra right on top of her. Even when Midori was not playing, the concerto was the conductor's best work of the evening."
Until now, I have been a blogger, season ticket subscriber, freelance musician, and critic-at-large. But, with the encouragement of our CEO Maryellen Gleason, I have taken the next step towards becoming one with The Phoenix Symphony.
As of today, I have become a member of the Phoenix Symphony Association, specifically an "Ovation Membership."
One of the benefits of such membership is the privelege of attending the Annual Meeting, to meet the Board of Directors, the artistic staff that includes Maestro Christie, and the administrative staff that includes the President & CEO Gleason.
I will now have the opportunity to learn first-hand how the Symphony operates and what the artistic plans for the future will be. Maybe have a little more meaningful input than just blogging in my various suggestions. Of course, I will continue to express my humble opinions in these columns to provoke heated discussion...
Hey Cat-man, why not tell the folk how much that cost you. I got the same letter, and shredded it.
I donated $100.00 out of my own pocket to become an "Ovation" level member.
If I could afford more, given my full-time State employment income, I would. Perhaps next year. I do support other performing arts organizations, both through monetary giving and volunteer public musical performances.
Does the "Anonymous Shredder" take pride in his acts?
