The Ring Around the Season

In only three short days, The Phoenix Symphony's 2008-09 season will open with a bang when a beefed-up orchestra and guest soprano powerhouse Jane Eaglen shake the walls of Symphony Hall with the thunderously romantic sounds of Richard Wagner and the awe-inspiring music of his Ring-Cycle.

Before you go, make sure to catch up with Jane Eaglen as she talked with the Arizona Republic last week at this link. She discusses what sets a Wagnerian soprano apart from the rest and just how she's able to virtually drown out a 100-piece orchestra with her voice alone.

Then, head over to The Phoenix Symphony's homepage and watch the quick preview video to take in some of the sights and sounds that you'll see and hear throughout the evening as Music Director Michael Christie walks you through the concert and the musical juggernaut that was Richard Wagner.

And finally, don't forget to get your tickets at this link or at the symphony's Box Office (602-495-1999), enjoy the concert, and then come right back to this blog to let us know what you thought. This year promises more online interaction with The Phoenix Symphony than ever before so click away and enjoy the show. We're just getting warmed up!

Wow! Love that Wagner, but evidently I slept through the Tannhäuser Overture! I could swear that I was awake for the entire concert, but checking in the AZ Republic, I see that Richard Nielsen, the noted music critic, heard the Tannhäuser overture ...according to his review ... or did he mail in a review based on his reading of the program????

Nope, Tannhauser Overture was there. Must have been one heck of a dream!
