Baroque Continues on Toward Christmas

After seven performances of the Messiah (you haven't missed the Sing-Along version yet), The Phoenix Symphony and Phoenix Symphony Chorus have spread the magical music of Handel's Baroque celebration throughout the Valley. Check out some excerpts from the performances below:

And for those of you who still have a craving for holiday Baroque, performances of Baroque Christmas begin Friday and run through the weekend in churches across the Valley. This program includes Vivaldi's shimmering Gloria as well as his Magnificat. It provides a perfect Baroque compliment to the familiarity of the Messiah.

Congrats to all on a wonderful Holiday Concert run. Having attended everything in one form or another I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute. From the Hallelujah Trail, the full Messiah, the beautifully moving Baroque Christmas to the grande finale of the Sing-a-long it was all just fantastic. Bravo!

As a member of the chorus, I'm not sure how objective I can be about the choral works, other than to say I think we did well and enjoyed the experience.

As for the symphony, I think they were excellent. In particular I enjoyed the Locatelli. Having the string "soloists" stand was a dramatic and effective touch. I immediately downloaded the piece from my music subscription service, which paled in comparison to the TPS performances. Well done.
