Music in Our Schools Month

Happy March from the Symphony’s Education Office! Each year in March, schools across the nation celebrate Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM®). Led by the National Association for Music Education, the event is designed to raise national awareness of the important need and benefits of quality music education for all children.

This March, The Phoenix Symphony is doing all we can to come alongside our schools and community organizations to celebrate MIOSM and bring the joy of music to Valley students of all ages. During the week of March 24th – 31st, the symphony’s education ensembles will perform over a dozen concerts around the Valley that are FREE to the public with something for every age group. Our Brass & Percussion Ensemble and Chamber Strings Ensemble will be out in full force all over the Valley!

Brass & Percussion Ensemble - Assistant Conductor Benjamin Rous leads the Brass and Percussion members of The Phoenix Symphony as they showcase a rip-roaring program of the loudest and most rhythmic music possible! This rousing program is full of information, excitement, and an impressive percussion setup, appropriate for children and adults alike! Catch this fabulous ensemble at of the following venues:

March 26, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, 10:00 and 11:00 am
March 29, Scottsdale Civic Center Library, 2:00 and 3:00pm

Strings from The Phoenix Symphony Chamber Ensemble - Lead by Assistant Conductor Benjamin Rous and Comprised of twenty-five members of The Phoenix Symphony’s string section, these performances are educational and engaging. Benjamin Rous presents the history and cultural significance of each work performed, and invites the audience to ask questions throughout the program. This year’s performances will include music by Mozart, the beautiful Adagio for Strings by Barber, and will end with the exciting and foot-tapping Hoe Down by American composer Aaron Copland. These concerts are free and appropriate for college students and adults!

This program is a partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges that provides introductions to orchestral music for undergraduate and continuing education students, as well as for general members of the surrounding community

One Nation Community Concert - Lead by Resident Conductor Lawrence Golan, The Phoenix Symphony performs an hour-long concert of fun and inspiring music. Join us for this special concert that also celebrates the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community students’ success with them playing side-by-side with their teachers from The Phoenix Symphony for the final musical selection!
